INTRODUCTION
This medium grade trek is suited for those persons who want to see the combination of life styles of the Mountain people and deserted plateau above the tree lines, which takes from the tropical lowland around the Pokhara Valley to the desolate plateau with close from Upper Mustang through the deepest gorge valley in the world "Kali Gandaki.
TRIP OUTLINE
Upon arrival at the Pokhara airport, meet our trekking crew and follow the same route upto Ghorepani. Next morning, after coming down from Poon Hill excursion, we will follow the trail down to Tatopani at 1180m, a large & prosperous town boosting with many hotels maintained by Thakali people, souvenir shops, a bank, post office, book-shop etc. The trail heads north upto Ghasa at 2080m, which is the first Thakali village on the trek, crossing many country-side villages past a hamlet of Rupse Chhahara ('beautiful waterfall') at 1550m.
After leaving the Ghasa village, the vegetation changes from subtropical trees and shrubs to alpine tress such as pine and birch upto Kalopani, elevation at 2560m. The trail slowly heads up the Kali Gandaki gorge, deepest in the world, making several ups & downs and somewhere fairly level trail up to Tukuche at 2590m. Tukuche was once the most important Thakali village where traders were assembled with salt and wool from Tibet and the upper Thak Khola and bartered with traders carrying grain from the southern valley.
